President’s Message – December 2025
Dear ASCE Houston Branch Members,
I hope you all had a restful Thanksgiving holiday and were able to enjoy time with family and friends.
We had more than 170 attendees from 16 engineering organizations join us for our annual Joint Societies Meeting on November 18th, where we were honored to hear from Chuck Wemple, Executive Director of the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC). Chuck’s engaging talk highlighted the work H-GAC is doing to address key regional challenges, including water infrastructure needs. I particularly enjoyed hearing him share insights into H-GAC’s approach to exploring future uses of AI through their “AI parking lot,” which allows for safe, controlled experimentation—much like a teenager learning to drive.

Looking ahead, I hope to see you all at the annual holiday meeting at Karbach Brewing Company on Tuesday, December 16th. Our keynote speaker will be Cassie Hoeprich, Director of Planning & Economic Development for Downtown Houston+, who will discuss the Main Street Promenade project and other improvements underway as Houston prepares to host the World Cup. Note that registration is limited to 120 attendees, so be sure to secure your tickets early!
As the 2025 year is ending, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of our sponsors for their partnership this year. Our Branch is fortunate to have been supported by nearly forty Houston-area organizations, enabling us to invest in the next generation of civil engineers and leaders while delivering meaningful programming for our membership. Please keep an eye out for sponsorship renewal requests next week from our Treasurer-Elect, Mica Rodriguez.
Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season!
Warm regards,
Anna Chamberlain, PE, CFM, ENV SP
