President's Message April 2025

Posted by VPComm on 04/08/2025 1:35 pm - President's Message

Dear ASCE Houston Branch,

At the end of March, I had the unforgettable experience of visiting Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. for ASCE’s annual legislative fly-in. ASCE representatives from all over the States (more than 20 from Texas!) flocked to the capital to learn from advocacy experts and to meet with the offices of our Senators and Representatives to advance infrastructure in America. We advocated to protect the municipal tax exemption, reauthorize expiring infrastructure programs, and maintain increased federal investments in our infrastructure. We are fortunate that ASCE is regarded on the Hill as a trusted, nonpartisan, technical voice, and I was thrilled to be part of the political process. It also didn’t hurt that it was peak cherry blossom season and I had my family in tow. See below for the Houston delegation outside Senator Ted Cruz’s office, and my loved ones at the Tidal Basin.

You won’t want to miss our April Branch meeting on Tuesday 4/15. Jim Szczesniak, Director of Aviation of Houston Airports will be our keynote speaker to give us an update on their projects and planning for the future. Also, we will be awarding scholarships to deserving college and high school students at this meeting! And finally, if you are in need of an ethics hour, Ron Reichert of Ameritex Pipe & Products will be leading the session before lunch. Register here.

As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or suggestions for the Branch. Sincerely,

Johnny Kim, PE

2025 ASCE Houston Branch Survey - We Want Your Feedback!

The Houston Branch Membership Committee has created an online survey to learn more about our members. We hope that this data can be used to help guide us in our program planning so that the range of speakers and topics presented, and the format of our general programming is aligned with our member interest.

This is an anonymous survey; however, upon completion of the survey, a link to a separate optional form will appear in the confirmation message if you'd like to be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of four $25 gift cards as our way of saying “THANK YOU!” for participating! We look forward to hearing your feedback, click here to complete the survey!
