President's Message March 2025
Dear ASCE Houston Branch,
February was an exciting month with the celebration of Engineers Week. We got to congratulate not one, but three, ASCE Houston leaders for their Young Engineer of the Year awards. As Gilbert put it in his acceptance speech, “We’re everywhere!” These engineers are using their careers to positively influence our community and industry, and I am grateful for their service to local professional societies.

I also had the opportunity to attend the ASCE Texas Section legislative drive-in on February 19 to meet with Texas senators and representatives to discuss the recently released Texas Infrastructure Report Card and provide briefings on infrastructure needs (see article below). Many Houston Branch members led the way in producing the IRC and organizing the legislative drive-in. It was a remarkable experience, despite the frigid temperatures!

I am looking forward to our next Branch meeting on March 18 where Priya Zachariah, Chief Resilience Officer of the Harris County Flood Control District, will provide an update on the Flood Resilience Plan. Show up, mingle, and stay informed! Register here.
As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or suggestions for the Branch. Sincerely,
Johnny Kim, PE, CFM
