December 2024 President's Message
Dear ASCE Houston Branch,
I can’t believe it myself, but the end of the year is upon us! We would like to thank all of our sponsors for their partnership this year. Our Branch is fortunate to be supported by forty Houston-area organizations, which allows us to invest in the next generation of civil engineers and leaders and deliver meaningful programming for the Branch. Be on the lookout for sponsorship renewal requests next week from our Treasurer Elect, Lauren Blaik.
We had more than 180 attendees from 16 different engineering organizations at our Joint Societies Dinner on November 12, where Varuna Singh from TxDOT Houston District provided updates on ongoing projects and future plans. Though we have a lot of transportation needs, we also have the engineering leadership and vision to address them.
Were you able to attend the November virtual technical session? Adam Eaton and Michael Bloom, current and past chair of the Branch’s Government Relations Committee, provided an overview of the committee’s goals and local activities. Our community needs engineers at all levels who are advocating for infrastructure. If you are interested, I encourage you to notify the committee here.
Finally, I am eager to see you at the annual holiday meeting at Karbach Brewing Company on Tuesday, December 17. Our keynote speaker will be Mark Hoffman, PE, Senior Director of Planning, Design, and Engineering at the Houston Zoo. Come enjoy an intriguing presentation as you wind down the year with your ASCE community. Note that registration is limited to 120 people, so get your tickets early!
