September 2024 President's Message
Hello ASCE Houston Members,
I can’t believe it’s already September! We kicked the month off with our Younger Member Volleyball Fundraiser last week, with 18 teams participating. We had two winning teams who battled for their spot as champions of their respective brackets in the pouring rain. We have a great start on scholarship funds for next year thanks to everyone who participated and sponsored, so thank you!
In August, we had record attendance at our Annual Joint ASCE/HCA meeting at St. Arnold’s. Houston City Council Member Sallie Alcorn educated us about the City of Houston budget and where both new infrastructure funding and infrastructure maintenance funding come from and how they fit in with the rest of the budget.
My last month serving as President is going to be an incredibly active month for ASCE Houston. (Just check out our calendar!) In honor of my last month as ASCE Houston Branch President, I give you a photo of my presidential acceptance speech for the American Presidency below. (kidding!)
Later this month, I will be passing the gavel to your incoming president, Johnny Kim, at the September Branch Meeting. I know that you, the Branch members, will be in great hands with Johnny Kim at the helm and a great incoming board. If you are interested in volunteering for the next term, our volunteer interest form is available here.
In addition to the Installation ceremony, The September Branch meeting will also include our Volunteer Appreciation ceremony and Dexter McCoy, Fort Bend County Precinct 4 Commissioner, as our keynote speaker. Make sure to register ahead of time to secure your spot.
It has been a great honor to serve as your President. Thank you all for the opportunity to serve you! I would like to take a little space to give a special shoutout to all the board members and volunteers who served during my term, as I could not have done this without you. You are amazing!
