April 2024 President's Message
Hello ASCE Houston Members!
For all you pranksters out there: Happy April Fools’ Day! May your day be filled with practical jokes and lots of laughs. For everyone else: Be safe out there.
At the March Branch meeting, Mr. Barry Gardebled of the Houston Airport System spoke about how to improve project processes and workflow while Mitch Winkler spoke about improving front end decision making. Thanks to both of our speakers for the suggestions, as I hope to implement a few of their ideas myself.
A huge THANK YOU to those who sponsored and attended our Younger Member Fundraiser at Top Golf! Some of our fundraiser attendees are shown below with the sponsorship signs. This fundraiser helps the Branch raise money for scholarships and there is nothing more I love than to be able to award these scholarships to deserving students. The Branch will be announcing our scholarship recipients at the April Branch meeting, so special thank you to these companies who sponsored: 5 Engineering, EHRA, Frayre Engineering, Maestas, and The Rios Group.

In addition to handing out scholarships, I look forward to hearing about the status of subsidence in the Greater Houston Area and the benefits of subsurface utility engineering at our April Branch Meeting. Don’t forget to register and I hope I see you there!
I am also looking forward to the Region 6 Student Symposium this month. Three of the six Houston-area universities and colleges are attending and competing, one of which will be attending for the first time! The Houston Branch was able to donate money to the two schools who requested funding due to our generous sponsors. GOOD LUCK Students!
If you are interested in becoming a Houston Branch Sponsor, please check out our sponsorship form. As always, please let me know if you have any suggestions for improving the Houston Branch and I hope to see you at our next event!
Thanks,
