December 2021 President's Message

Dear ASCE Houston Branch Members,

I learned an invaluable lesson during the pandemic. It taught me to never take things for granted and always appreciate the people in my life. I’m thankful to have celebrated Thanksgiving with my fiancé and dear friends, and I hope you were able to make new memories with family and friends over the holiday.

Last month we held our annual joint societies meeting. Twelve (12) local organizations (e.g., AIA, ASCE, ASHE, ASIE, CMAA, EWB, HHAE, SAME, SWE, TexITE, NSPE, and WTS) participated in the meeting, and I am glad our members had the opportunity to socialize with other attendees. Also, I’d like to extend my appreciation to the local organizations for their participation in the meeting. Our keynote speaker, Devon Tiner, Assistant Director of Building Standards for Houston Airport System, provided a very informative discussion regarding Houston Airport System (HAS) updates, including airport statistics, performance, and development plans.

Our December Branch meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Saint Arnold Brewery from 6:00-8:00 pm. Like previous years, we are collecting donations for Toys for Tots. The pandemic continues to create hardships for many families this year, and I hope you consider contributing to our toy drive. We will have some raffle items to celebrate the end of the year with our members and guests, and I hope to see you all there!

On my final note of this month, the time to renew your ASCE membership is coming soon. Please be sure to select the Houston branch and Texas section as part of your renewal. The events that we plan each year are supported by the funds generated from membership renewal. Your support is greatly appreciated as it will continue to support our branch events.
