Younger Member's Report

Fellow Younger Members,

This will be my last update as the Younger Member Chair. I would like to thank all the committee members for their service to the Younger Member Forum. I will continue to serve with the YMF as Branch Director. As always, I look forward to seeing you at one of the following events.

Where we’ve been:

Technical Activity:

Prior to the Houston Astros game on August 28^th, ASCE members attended a presentation and technical tour of Minute Maid Park.  The tour began at the offices of Walter P. Moore & Associates with a technical presentation of the park and key design aspects. Everyone then proceeded to the ballpark for a brief tour around the concourse. The tour focused on Union Station, the retractable roof, and other structural components of the park. Special thanks to Bart Miller with WPM for the insightful presentation on Minute Maid Park.

Social Event:

ASCE, TAWWA (Texas American Water Works Association), and WEAT (Water Environment Association of Texas) held a joint Younger Member Social on August 28^th.  The event was held at Minute Maid Park for the game between the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. All attendees had a great time and a full stomach since our “All-You-Can-Eat” ticket got us hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts, nachos and soda. The Astros even came away with the win! Special thanks to Schneider Electric for sponsoring the event.

Social Event:

The September Younger Members Social Event will be at Christian’s Tailgate Bar & Grill in the Heights, 2820 White Oak Dr., Houston, TX, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Thursdays are “Taco Night” with $1 tacos all night, but Happy Hour ends at 7pm so get there on-time for $2.50 wells, $2.75 domestics, $7.50 pitchers! We have a table reserved inside, ask the host/hostess for ASCE. Parking is free in the surface lot behind the building, and there is free overflow parking across the street. Please RSVP for the event at least one day in advance (September 24^th) so we can provide the venue an accurate head count. Attendance is unlimited and open to members and non-members, so bring a friend and hope to see you there!
