Younger Member's Report
Happy New Year everyone!
The ASCE Younger Member Forum is ecstatic about all that 2017 has in store.
The YM Forum wrapped up 2016 with volunteers turning out to support the CYCLE build, young engineers attending the PE luncheon, and an unforgettable Ugly Sweater Contest & Social. Take a look at event photos for a recap.
We hope you’re prepared for a busy year. E-Week is just around the corner and it promises to be eventful and memorable.
On behalf of the Younger Member Forum, I’d like to congratulate Julia Clark, P.E. on being selected as the 2017 Edmund Friedman Young Engineer of The Year! Julia’s contributions to the ASCE Houston chapter have been exceptional and we are proud to recognize her outstanding service and achievements. Keep an eye on the chapter calendar for YEOY banquet registration details among other E-Week events.
I want to take the time to share with you a special program that ASCE is participating in, spearheaded by Omar Oweis, with the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). The program is called the Younger Member Initiative, and is meant to create a platform for younger members of all organizations to collaborate on a more streamlined and organized fashion. Each organization will have 1 to 2 events a year where all other organizations will be invited to and could lead to having 100-200 people show up. This is a great fundraising opportunity for all organizations, along with a good way to network and recruit new members.
So far, the organizations participating are as follows:
-
Society of American Military Engineers (SAME)
-
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
-
American Society of Indian Engineers (ASIE)
-
(ECH)
-
(SHPE)
-
American Public Works Association (APWA)
-
Water & Environmental Association of Texas (WEAT)
-
(WTS)
The program’s inception began right around April, and this past September marked the kickoff event happy hour in which over 75 engineering young professionals from across the City were in attendance.
In the meantime, check out this month’s events below:

A short presentation will be provided (along with lunch) with a tour of the facility to follow. The event will last approximately two hours. Please follow the link below to register.
