Younger Member's Report
It’s December and the season of giving is upon us.
I hope that you enjoyed a wonderful November with friends and family.
On November 3rd, ASCE Younger Members attended the technical session of David Hasness, regional engineer at Pavestone LLC as he gave a presentation focusing on Pavers followed by a plant tour. Younger Members were engaged in an informative discussion about pavers and how they can withstand the forces of weather, water and traffic. Additionally, they are specifically designed to withstand freeze-thaw conditions, making them a good choice for cool as well as warm climates.
This December, many of our Younger Members are looking for unique ways to give back.
On December 3rd, a group of ASCE members and guests helped build bicycles for CYCLE at NRG Center. CYCLE (Changing Young Children’s Lives through Education) is a children’s charity that rewards students who have met their goals for higher academic performance with a new bicycle! So far, over 150,000 bicycles have been awarded to students in the Greater Houston Area. This was a great event and a fun way to spend a Saturday morning! Thank you to all of our volunteers who participated. If you didn’t make our scheduled event, please feel free to sign up another time that works best for you. Additional information and registration is available on the CYCLE website.
Join SAME and ASCE December 15th for an ugly sweater holiday happy hour at Hay Merchant from 5pm – 9pm to get into the holiday spirit! All young professionals are welcome and tacky Christmas sweaters are encouraged! Appetizers will be provided.
And last but not least, don’t forget to help yourselves.
As mentioned in November, many of our Youngers Members have a PE Exam in their future!
If that includes you, I invite you to join us at the December 8th PE Luncheon at Terracon and help yourself to a wealth of good advice.
The presentation will be given by George Hartman, Engineer for the Texas Board of Professional Engineers for over 13 years. The Luncheon will begin with a presentation over specifics of professional licensure application and conclude with a Q&A session. Moreover, four recent licensed professionals are available to give a brief rundown of what to expect exam day.
Lunch will be provided. For questions, please contact Mahsa Arastoo, our YM Technical Committee Chair. Register here: http://ascehouston.org/meetinginfo.php?id=141
Happy Holidays!
Ashley Francis, P.E.
