Current Practice and Innovations in Green Infrastructure
Tom Bacus
Mr. Tom Bacus, Principal of Sherwood Design Engineers, will present ideas and examples on current practice in Green Infrastructure linking ecology, infrastructure, and design.
Examples will be drawn from International, national, and local projects to illustrate the effectiveness of Green Infrastructure in reducing water and energy requirements for projects ranging in size from the building scale to the city scale. The examples will demonstrate how to leverage ecological systems to maximize building and site resource efficiency.
Life cycle cost effectiveness is a key component of Green Infrastructure projects. To maximize value for clients, engineers should incorporate the best utilization of technology and sustainability within the context of the community and the local ecology. Optimal design must factor in capital and maintenance costs along with the value of reducing water and energy use.
