Younger Member's Report
Happy March Everyone,
I hope you’re all doing well as we break out of the last of the cold weather for the year. A couple weeks ago we celebrated Engineers week, and I would like to congratulate Scott Marr, this year’s ASCE Houston Branch Young Engineer of the Year.
We will have a social event at Helfey’s in Midtown on March 26th. It will be a trivia night, so brush up on your useless information any way you can beforehand. Next month, we will have tour of the Port of Houston on April 16th, with a presentation on the land side of design and construction as well as the water side work at the port. Other things to get excited about are the Younger Member’s Golf Tournament and AIA Sand Castle Competition.
This year’s golf tournament will be held at Wild Cat Golf Club on Tuesday May 12th. This is the largest fundraiser for the Houston Branch’s scholarship fund. The proceeds from the tournament allow us to support local college students in STEM programs. I am very excited about the tournament this year, and I look forward to seeing many of you there! For information on registering or sponsoring you can check the events calendar (http://ascehouston.org/meetinginfo.php?id=42) or contact Lacey Thompson ([email protected]) and/or William Saour ([email protected]).
The AIA Sandcastle will be held at Galveston East Beach. Contact Jennifer Eckroth ([email protected]) or head to the event page at the link below if you’re interested in building, sponsoring the team, or both! Obviously as civil engineers we should win this thing, as it will require precise knowledge of sand characteristics, structural design, grading and earthwork, construction management, etc. And we get to do all of this on the beach (which I’m guessing is better than most of our usual job sites)! As you can tell we’ve got a busy couple of months coming up as the warm weather rolls in and before our lovely city turns into a 24 hour sauna. I hope to see you at a couple (or all) of these events!
Sláinte,
