Russell Jernigan, PE, PG, PhD; Brierley Associates Corporation
Dr. Russell (Russ) Jernigan (PE, PG) has three decades of experience in soil and rock mechanics, tunnel design, dam design, and hydroelectric matters. He spent more than 12 years with Pacific Gas and Electric Company, where he worked as a Field Engineer, a Design Engineer, and a Civil Engineer. He started his underground experience as the geotechnical engineer on the Kerckhoff 2 and Helms Pumped Storage projects. Both of these projects were massive underground hydroelectric plants, featuring miles of tunnel, deep shafts, and large underground powerhouse caverns. After getting his PhD at the University of Colorado, he worked for 3 years for URS in dam and geotechnical engineering. He has worked for Brierley Associates for more than 13 years, mostly in the Austin Metro area. In that time, he has been involved with more than 200,000 feet of tunnel and trenchless designs. A partner and Senior Associate with Brierley Associates Corporation, he is the Texas Project Manager, heading Brierley's Austin office.
