President's Message

Dear members,

As we start a New Year and New Decade, I wish you much success and happiness. I hope that you look forward for the wonderful possibilities into your professional and personal lives that 2020 has to offer.

Our last Branch Meeting of 2019 was held on Tuesday, December 10th at Saint Arnolds Brewing Company. It is with deep sadness to report that our keynote speaker Chief Art Acevedo, Houston Police Department (HPD), had to cancel his speaking engagement due to the line of duty death of HPD Sergeant Christopher Brewster. On behalf of the ASCE Houston Branch, I sent our condolences to HPD and to Sergeant Brewster’s family. I appreciate the meeting attendees for their understanding under this difficult circumstance. I also appreciate the meeting attendees for donating brand new unwrapped gifts and monetary funds to support the “Toys for Tots” program.

The ASCE Houston Branch returns to the HESS Club this month, and we'll return to our lunch meeting format for the spring. This month’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 11am-1pm and I hope to see you there. Our keynote speaker is Mr. Russ Poppe, Executive Director, Harris County Flood Control District. During the meeting, we will recognize our 2020 Class of ASCE Life Members in a brief ceremony. As President of the ASCE Houston Branch, it is a great honor to preside over such a special occasion.

I am available for any questions or comments about the ASCE Houston Branch, so do not hesitate to contact me.
