EWRI Luncheon: Predicting Meander Migration of the Brazos River

Presented by Gregory R. Wine, P.E., LEED AP, Huitt-Zollars, Inc.

The presentation will look at the historical meandering of the Brazos River in and around Sugar Land and Richmond, Texas.  Discussions will include historical flows, soil conditions and velocities.  The presentation will include the Time Sequence and Extrapolation method for predicting meander migration along with a method developed by Dr. Jean-Louis Briaud, P.E., Ph.D., at Texas A&M University called the Observation Method for Meanders (OMM). This method consists of making use of past observation coupled with soil erodibility testing to predict future river behavior.  Finally, the presentation will include the probable extent of meander migration of the Brazos River over the next 30 years with associated risk-consequence analyses.
