Tech Session 1: "Houston Bikeways within Houston Public Works"

Anita Hollmann is the Program Manager for the Houston Bikeways within Houston Public Works (HPW).  Influential in the development of the Houston Bike Plan just passed in March of 2017, Anita now works on the day-to-day task associated with its implementation as it pertains to Complete Streets.   Successes include the incorporation of bicycle detours for all on-street construction projects, 2015 and 2017 extension of the Lamar Cycle track, introduction of employee-based bicycle education training, capital improvement project coordination as well as regular negotiations with outside area partners such as TxDOT, Harris County Flood Control District, Bike Houston and others.   Most recently, Anita’s managed the introduction and update of the City’s Infrastructure Design manual as it pertains certain bicycle standards and associated guidance.   While there is still much more to be done, Anita is proud of what her department has achieved in such a short amount of time, and is excited to share her experience with ASCE.

Mr. David Parkhill, P.E., D.WRE, Director of Raw Water Enterprise, San Jacinto River Authority, Bio

Ms. Spandana Tummuri, Technical Engineer, San Jacinto River Authority, Bio

Tech Session 2: "Long Range Water Supply Plan for the San Jacinto River Authority"

In addition to maintaining their existing water supply operations, SJRA’s primary goal is to address the water supply issues for the region through the development of water supply projects and the responsible stewardship of resources.  SJRA is currently developing a raw water supply master plan that is intended to serve as a tool in furthering the goals of the authority for the shared benefit of water users within its service area.

The raw water supply master plan is a comprehensive approach for developing water supply options to meet the needs in the SJRA service area over the next 50 years.  The raw water supply master plan includes a thorough review of the existing, available supplies and various potential demand projections.  Projected needs for the SJRA service areas are identified and multiple water supply options (strategies) are developed to meet the future needs.  The raw water supply master plan includes a screening process for reviewing the strategies and selecting the preferred options.  Finally, the raw water supply plan includes an implementation plan for scheduled development of water supply options to meet the region’s need.
