2020 ASCE Houston Award of Honor

Andres Salazar P.E.

The ASCE Houston Branch Awarded Mr. Andres Salazar as the 2020 Award of Honor recipient. Mr. Salazar was presented the award at February Branch Meeting. The Award of Honor is presented to an individual who has demonstrated continuous support to ASCE at the branch, section, and society levels, and is the highest recognition that the Houston Branch can bestow on one of its members. Congratulations Andres and thank you for the lasting positive impact you have had on the Houston Branch.

Andres Salazar is the Director of Water Resources Engineering for Walter P Moore and Associates. He has more than 22 years of experience with planning and feasibility studies for flood risk management, drainage improvements and water supply projects. He has special expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic systems that are key to creating an effective sustainable site drainage design. He provides expertise and direction for flood risk assessment, site drainage, water recycling, and site water amenities. He has extensive experience with complex drainage projects and is proficient with various software packages for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.

Dr. Salazar has been a member of ASCE since 1998 and has served in various roles at the local branch and the State Section level. For the Houston Branch, he served as Chair of the Technical Programs Committee in 2012 and VP of Technical Affairs in 2013. Later, he started the Houston Chapter of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute in 2015 and was the leader of that group for two years. At the Texas Section level, he was elected VP of Technical Affairs in 2019 and is currently serving as Chair of the Flood Risk Management Advisory Committee.

His education includes a Civil Engineering Degree and a Master’s in Civil Engineering from Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia and a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Texas A&M University.
