April 2021 President's Message

Howdy ASCE Houston!

Happy Spring! I hope you have been able to enjoy the beautiful weather we have had the last few weeks without the pollen attacking you. I was happy to announce at the March Branch Meeting that the Board of Direction authorized to donate all collected registration fees (a total of $830) from the February Branch Meeting to the Houston Food Bank. We decided to make this donation on behalf of the Branch due to the hardships brought on by the winter storm.

We are currently accepting scholarship applicants from University Students within the Houston Branch region. The applications are due by April 16th. If you are a civil engineering student or know of a candidate please encourage them to apply! The link to the scholarship information is provided as follows:

The Houston Branch Primary and Secondary Education Committee is organizing a STEM Outreach page to permanently reside on the Branch Website. The page will be dedicated to showcasing civil engineering as a career for K-12 students. We are currently soliciting for civil engineers at all levels (from students to seasoned professionals) to submit a self-recorded video highlighting their journey as a Civil Engineer. The videos will be accessible by educators to demonstrate the importance of civil engineers and inspire future generations to purse a career as a civil engineer. If you would like more information please send me an email.

I hope you are able to join us virtually for the next Branch Meeting on Tuesday, April 20th at 12 PM CST. The keynote speaker will be Ms. Veronica O. Davis, P.E. Deputy Director of Houston Public Works. Ms. Davis’ address is titled, “Vision Zero Program Implementation: Past Experience and Plans for Houston.”

In addition to the Branch Meeting, at least one technical session will be offered this month. Information for all events can be found on the website,

I am receptive to all questions, comments, concerns, and ideas you may contact me at [email protected].

Until next time ASCE Houston, take care of yourself and each other.
