SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Join your peers for the next SEI Houston Chapter Luncheon Technical Session:

“Roofing Systems: Materials, Investigations, and Failures”

A building's roofing system is one of the most critical components of the building envelope, and one that is a common source of problems. Roof systems are also a relatively expensive and short-lived building component, which factors into them being a common source of construction and insurance litigation. As engineers, having a fundamental understanding of roofing systems and their failures allows us to better communicate with other designers, such as architects, and clients (building owners) about these issues. This presentation will focus on providing a basic understanding of common roofing system components so that attendees will know how to identify materials and talk about them. This knowledge will provide attendees with a foundation upon which they can continue to grow their understanding of roofing systems. In addition, this presentation will highlight common types of roofing failures and how roofing failures are evaluated by a forensic expert.
