Overview

Storm water management regulations and flood awareness should be considered in various phases of the site development project cycle, from planning and design, to construction and maintenance. We are pleased to announce that various local agencies have confirmed participation in a seminar series to raise awareness on these important and evolving topics. Please join us to learn the local requirements for storm water quality and storm water detention, implications from the Tax Day Flood, and ongoing changes in these policies. Speakers will include representatives from the City of Houston, Harris County Engineering Department, Fort Bend County, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The first seminar held on July 25 will focus on storm water quality regulations applicable to site development including permitting, design approvals, and construction and post-construction activities. It will include also overview of Low Impact Development in Harris County. Participants will learn the permitting process, acceptable practices, common mistakes during permit applications, things to avoid, and tips to stay in compliance with the permit.  A detailed agenda of this seminar is available here.

The second seminar held on August 8 will discuss storm water detention requirements which are intended to mitigate adverse impact to our Bayous during extreme events. These sessions will be supplemented with an overview by Harris County Flood Control District and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of the recent floods in 2016 and the proposed changes to the Addicks, Barker and Upper Cypress watersheds.  A detailed agenda of the second seminar is available here.
