President's Message

Another Engineer’s Week is in the books. Thank you to all who attended our February Branch meeting during a very busy Engineer’s Week. A special thank you for the numerous Past Presidents and Life Members that attended. These individuals have given so much of their time and effort in support of ASCE over their careers.

Congratulations again to Julia Clarke, P.E. as the 2017 ASCE Houston Young Engineer of the Year and Harold “JR” Reddish, P.E. as the 2017 Houston Engineer of the Year. Both are very deserving of their respective awards because of their past accomplishments and continue to serve the Engineering community well.

I am appreciative of the words of wisdom and challenge by Mr. D. Wayne Klotz, P.E., D.WRE, PRES 09.ASCE, ENV SP in his keynote address to the Branch. His call to have engineers more engaged and involved in the community is very timely given the pressing infrastructure needs our cities, states, and nation have. We should have a greater voice in the infrastructure conversation.   If you are interested in volunteering and taking steps to become more involved in our Branch activities and in influencing and participating in the discussion on infrastructure, please contact myself or one of our officers or committee chairs.

Thank you to Dr. Milton Rahman, Ph.D, P.E., PMP, CFM and Mr. Bruce Mann for being our Technical Speakers.

We continue to have many activities planned around “Dream Big” and look forward to having you participate as a volunteer. If you haven’t had a chance to see the Dream Big film, please do so either as an individual or with a group. If you happen to have kids or younger relatives, the film is a great way to inspire them to look at their world differently and see the important role that engineers have.

See you at our next Branch lunch meeting at HESS Club on March 21st when we have Mr. Russell “Russ” Poppe, P.E., the new Executive Director for the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) talk about “Flood Control Projects and Their Benefits”.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss how ASCE can provide greater benefit to you, please call or email (713-939-6438 or president@ascehouston.org), or feel free to find me at the branch meetings.  As always, thank you for your support of ASCE Houston.

Patrick Beecher, P.E.
