Branch Statement - Hurricane Harvey

I pray that this message finds you and your family safe.

The damage to the Houston area from Hurricane Harvey is historic in nature.  With such widespread flooding across the region, everyone has been affected.  It will require a prolonged and significant response by the entire region to aid in the recovery and relief efforts.

I am proud of the fact that ASCE Houston Branch and its members are active leaders and participants in the communities where we live.  As you are able and it is safe in your area to do so, I ask you to please volunteer your time and talents to relief efforts specific to your neighborhood and region of town.  To aid the overall recovery, the Houston Branch will be providing links on our website to help direct our members to organizations, such as the Red Cross, United Way Flood Relief, and Greater Houston Community Foundation, where donations can be made.  Mayor Sylvester Turner has established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund that will accept tax deductible flood relief donations to victims that have been affected by the recent floods.  This fund will be housed as the Greater Houston Community Foundation (

As we begin to dry out, the Houston Branch will keep you informed of our organized efforts to help in the clean-up.  Our Section and Global ASCE leaders are also working on efforts to engage our partners and members to support us.

If you are in need of shelter and supplies, please let us know by emailing  We will get the word out to the ASCE community.

Be safe!

Patrick Beecher
