Houston Branch Members Receive National Awards

Dr. Jerry R. Rogers, Ph.D, P.E., Diplomate Water Resources Engineer, Distinguished Member ASCE is a Past President of the Houston Branch and a Past National Vice President of ASCE (2001-2003).   On December 20, 2011,  Dr. Rogers was selected as a 2012 University of Arkansas College of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus.  His selection will be announced at the University of Arkansas College of Engineer Alumni Awards Banquet on Saturday, April 21, 2012. 
 
 
Dr. Rogers received the ASCE National Civil Engineering History and Heritage Award and an honorarium at the Memphis ASCE Annual Conference.

Paul Voiles received the ASCE National Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award for Professional Achievement (1 of 5 recipients) and an honorarium at the Memphis ASCE Annual Conference.

Texas Section Recognizes Houston Branch Members
 
Three members of the Houston Branch have been recognized by the Texas Section for their contributions to the profession and will receive their respective awards at the upcoming Texas Section Spring 2012 Meeting to be held April 18-21 at the El Tropicano River Walk Hotel in beautiful downtown San Antonio.  Please join us in congratulating these deserving individuals!
 
Professional Service Award- Mr. Ron Reichart, M. ASCE
 
The Texas Section Professional Service Award is conferred on a subscribing member of the Texas Section for meritorious service to the Texas Section and to one or more of the Section’s Branches upon recommendations of the Honors Committee.
 
Service To People Award -  Mr. Tom Ramsey, P.E., M. ASCE
 
The Texas Section Service to People Award is made to a civil engineer (not necessarily a member of the Texas Section) who has distinguished himself or herself with special service to people. The award is intended to recognize civil engineers who bring credit to their profession through community activities that are visible to the general public.
 
Service to Students Award – Mr. Julio Salinas, P.E., M. ASCE
 
This Award was established by the Texas Section Board of Directors in October 1999. It is conferred on a subscribing member of the Texas Section for meritorious service to the Texas Section through service to one or more of the Texas/Mexico Regional Conference’s Student Chapters (Clubs).
 
 
Erin Kallman to Receive Rudolph Hering Medal
 
Houston Branch Member Erin Kallman, M.ASCE has been selected to receive the 2011 Rudolph Hering Medal for the paper entitled  “Ceramic Filters Impregnated with Silver Nanoparticles for Point-of-Use Water Treatment in Rural Guatemala,” which appeared in the June 2011 issue of ASCE’s Journal of Environmental Engineering
 
The award will be presented at the 2012 EWRI Congress, Albuquerque, NM, May 22-24, 2012. 
 
The Rudolph Hering Medal recognizes outstanding papers that contribute to the advancement of the environmental branch of the engineering profession.  The Rudolph Hering Medal was instituted and endowed in 1924 by the Sanitary Engineering Division (now the Environmental and Water Resources Institute) of the American Society of civil Engineers, in honor of Rudolph Hering, past Vice President of the Society.
